So, if you follow me, odds are that you know about GISHWHES, the Greatest Internatonal Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen.
This year, I was completely astonished to be the recipient of two acts of kindness. It wasn’t just the pampering factor (though that was nice, too!), but the fact that I had friends from different teams who reached out and made this past hunt one of the most cherished ever for me. Long after I’ve
repressed forgotten glue-on food and public acts of insanity, I’ll remember the friendships I’ve made with completely ABNOSOME artists and individuals thanks to GISHWHES and TheRandomAct.org.
I hope with all my heart that these lovely teams know how much their generosity means to me! Wishing you both the best of luck with the judging, and I am so proud of all of the amazing things you’ve accomplished over this past week!
This year’s hunt started on a depressing note, because I was not allowed to take off time from work, and had insane hours to boot (was going from 7 a.m. to past 8 p.m. some days).
Wednesday afternoon I actually got off a bit early. Completely elated, I ran to grab a bite to eat and to tackle as many items as I could. Then, this happened:
Members from my team from last year, HolyFireMolotov (callmeempereuse-bitch, thebadasseed, refis), saw my post and…
(the screen capture is crappy, but the food was DELICIOUS!)
… had a chicken parmigiana sub AND chocolate cake delivered to me. The insane part: the ladies who had this delivered are from FRANCE, while I live in the U.S!!!
Only with GISHWHES do you get fresh Italian food delivered within America by the French. International scavenger hunt, indeed.
I’ve adored these ladies ever since meeting them, and they’re the reason I came back for a second year of GISHWHES.
Thank you for coming to the rescue and giving me the energy to get my own items done!
And if you’ve taken part with GISHWHES this year, hopefully you know of Ashley at ambiguous-ash. She offers great tips for GISHWHES, newcomers and veterans alike, is an active RandomAct supporter, fantabulous mom and writer, and basically all around nice gal.
Ashley talked me down during my more panicky moments, and with her team, AmbiguousMinions, she reminded me that (in addition to breaking out of your comfort zone and redefining normalcy), kindness and sharing GISHWHES with the community are some of the most important things about the hunt.
Ash sent me a care package for delivery to a local care center for women and children in need:
She looked up the site’s wish list, and provided a ton of stuff, including:
- pens, pencils, notebooks, colored pencils, erasers, and more
She also armed me with a sock monkey hat (and socks!) to wear when making the delivery!
Then, there was also this…
(GISHWHES-colored bouquet and tear-inducing card!)
Thank you for beautiful words and presents, and for giving me a way to extend the #GetKind and GISHWHES good feels past the scavenger hunt itself!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go sniffle into a cup of tea before attempting to remove the remains of John Barrowman’s duct-tape head from my carpet…
You’re the best and we love you !! I don’t know who came up with the idea in the first place, but we knew we wanted you to be “our item#6” and when we saw your FB status, it came like “oh no, can we send her food ?” and Stef just check the internet and even found your address I don’t know how, and we were like
and then I asked you so weird things like your address to be sure, and your phone !! and YOU GAVE THEM TO ME !! and we send it !! and we were so happy about it, because you deserve it so much !
